This Sunday is “Youth Sunday.” Organized and run by Winchester Unitarian Society Youth Group (WUSYG) teens, the service will feature live musical performances from our youth, as well as the famed “Senior Statements,” when our seniors offer reflections on their time spent with the youth group and talk about their ideas and hopes for the future. The theme for this year’s Youth Sunday is Nesting, and the service will also include a bridging ritual recognizing our 8th graders’ transition into “youth” and our senior youth’s transition into “young adulthood.” This service will also include a ceremony of welcome for new members.
Special “Share the Plate” Designation: Together we have committed our congregation to work for Racial Justice. You can show your support for “black lives,”
by contributing to the campaign to support the affiliated group: Black Lives UU. The Unitarian Universalist Association has asked every congregation to donate $10 a member over the next two years to fulfill the promise by the UUA Board of Trustees. “The Board’s decision reflects an understanding that Unitarian Universalism has benefited from the system of white supremacy that advantages white people and white institutions.” See https://www.uua.org/racial-justice and
http://www.blacklivesuu.com/goals/ A generous pledge has been made to the UUA to match the contributions of each congregation who donates $10 a member. The Social Action Committee has given a grant of $1000 this year. Our goal is for WUS to donate approximately $2800 over two years. We hope that Share the Plate for Black Lives UU on Sunday May 20 will total $500. Together let us build a “radically inclusive, justice-centered, multiracial
religious faith.”
