October 30th is the day before Halloween, an observance going back to the celebration of Samhain when it was believed that “the veil is thinnest” between this world and whatever comes next. This Sunday and next will be a two-part series, reflecting first on the questions and issues we face at the end of our lives, on this side of the veil. Next Sunday will be our annual Remembrance service, when we recall those who have gone before us. These two services will both be about death but in actuality they are both about life and what it means to seek lives of meaning, wholeness and integrity. As part of Spooktacular after worship, children and the young-at-heart are invited to attend the service in costume.
