This Sunday, in honor of Veterans Day, we will welcome guest speaker Pete Rogers into the pulpit. After 40 years of silence and shame, Pete publicly “came out” as a veteran of the Vietnam War 10 years ago. Since then he has been telling his story to high school students in central Massachusetts – as a speaker with the Veterans Education Project – and active in educating his community to better understand the emotional trauma wounds of veterans.
Pete Rogers was a career captain in the US Army and fluent in Vietnamese when he served in Vietnam in 1968. He led an intelligence collection unit with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He came back a dove. He is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst, Massachusetts.
