With food prices continuing to soar, many families continue to face food insecurity. We can help!
For many years we have provided boxes of holiday foods for Winchester and Woburn families through the Council of Social Concern’s Thanksgiving Basket Program. Last year we donated 61 boxes, and we have the opportunity to participate again this year.
There are several options for participating: 1) You can purchase food items and a $20 gift card yourself and fill a box that we’ll provide for the food items. If carrying a packed box is too heavy for you, bring the food items in smaller bags, and we can pack them prior to the service on November 24th in Metcalf Hall. Please bring the gift cards separately. 2) We have again made arrangements with Stop & Shop to pack boxes for people who are unable or prefer not to do the shopping themselves. The cost per box, including a $20 gift card for the turkey, is $94.58. If you choose this option, please make your check out to “Stop and Shop” and write “Thanksgiving Baskets” in the memo section of the check. You can share the cost of a basket with another donor. If you don’t have another person or family in mind who would like to share, we can pair you up with someone.
For those who pack their own boxes, a list of suggested items can be found HERE.
Please sign up to donate one or more dinners by signing up at coffee hour at church this Sunday, October 27th, or on November 3rd or November 10th. You can also contact Chris Weigand by email at weigandcd@gmail.com.
There will be more detailed instructions emailed to you about preparing the box yourself or having Stop & Shop do it. The filled boxes will be due at the church on Sunday, November 24th. We will provide you with the boxes.
Together we can make Thanksgiving a happy holiday for many families in the Woburn/Winchester area who are facing difficult times.
With gratitude,
Your Social Action and Outreach Committee
