Love In Action January 2024

Our LOVE IN ACTION event for January is preparing and distributing care kits for those experiencing homelessness at “Mass and Cass” (Massachusetts Avenue and Melina Cass Boulevard) through the organization Moms on the Mile.

Here are the many ways you can participate!

Bring a NEW hat/scarf/pair of gloves/pair of socks to WUS on January 7th, 14th or 21st. If you received some winter wear this December that is not quite your color, here is your chance to put it to good use or buy something new. Place your donation in the marked box in the Symmes Room. You can even make something to donate.

Many thanks to Devon for starting the drive off right with this gorgeous handmade crocheted hat!

OR Donate generously to the Share the Plate on January 14th. One half of what is given in that service will be used to purchase the care kit supplies: combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, winter gear, etc… OR

Bake cookies at WUS on Saturday, January 20th, beginning at 3pm. We will want to put two homemade cookies in each kit. With 100 kits that is 200 cookies! All ages are welcome to join in the baking fun. OR

Stay after worship on Jan 21st to help assemble the kits in Metcalf Hall. If we still need cookies, we will bake as we assemble. There will also be opportunities to create winter-themed greetings for the recipients. Those who wish to distribute the kits are welcome to join Rev. Heather in leaving WUS around 1pm.

Kitchen managers and drivers are needed to pull this project together. If you are interested in either of these low key leadership roles, contact Rev. Heather: heather.janules@winchesteruu.org
