Job Posting: Teaching Mentor

Summary:  The teaching mentor, in collaboration with the Director of Religious Education (DLRE), provides mentorship and faith development opportunities to young people at the Winchester Unitarian Society. The position is part time, 12 hours per week September through June.

General Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direct supervision of the Director of Lifespan Religious Education (DLRE) or their designee.
  • Collaborate with the DLRE or their designee to develop or modify content or curriculum based on specific themes for each age/grade cohort.
  • Plan and direct or lead/co-lead weekly group activities for Sunday morning program (grades pre-school-6th) and afternoon “Faith in Action” cohort (8th grade); coordinate with DLRE for off-site programming/visits as appropriate.
  • Communicate directly with families regarding program content and schedule. Conference as necessary to support individual children.
  • Communicate program information to be included in weekly Highlights (e-newsletter) and via other communication vehicles.
  • Maintain attendance information and related reporting 
  • Support and direct teenage teachers in the Sunday morning program.
  • Adhere to the safety policies and procedures of Winchester Unitarian Society.

Specific Requirements:

  • Must be available most Sunday mornings and afternoons during the 2019-2020 church year (mid-September through early June) for on-site programs. 
  • Must be able to support service-learning opportunities on and off site.
  • Must be able to conduct additional preparation and planning/meeting time each week during the church year.
  • Keep track of hours online timesheet; report hours each Sunday
  • Employment contingent upon successful criminal background check and satisfactory references.
