Join Dr. Drazen as he traces the rise of high quality evidence used by the medical profession to make decisions about patient treatment. He will discuss the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis as an example and conclude with insights into modern day treatment decisions. Dr. Drazen, MD, is Editor-in-Chief of The New England Journal of Medicine, the Chief of the Division of Medical Communications, and a physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is also Distinguished Parker B. Francis Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. This program is supported by a grant from the Cummings Foundation.
How have immigrants from the former Soviet Union impacted the United States’ innovation and economy? Join Dr. Sheila Puffer as she discusses her co-authored book, Hammer and Silicon: The Soviet Diaspora in the US Innovation Economy. Learn the untold story of over 150 technical professionals from the former Soviet Union who emigrated between 1970 and 2015, and contributed to the US innovation economy, particularly in software, social media, biotechnology, and medicine. Winchester resident, Dr. Puffer, Professor of International Business at Northeastern University, is also an associate with the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University, and has served as program director of the Gorbachev Foundation of North America.
