Stained Glass Windows Task Force
Charge from the Standing Committee
Background
We have beautiful stained glass windows in our sanctuary. The window facing Manchester Field has been redone but the other three are in need of some repair and maintenance and are hidden from view from the outside by a covering of faded Lexan. There is a special endowment fund to support the window facing Main Street. In the past five or six years at least two evaluations have been conducted recommending repairs on these windows, which taken in their entirety could become very costly. Through our relationship with the Building Committees of three other large churches in town we have become aware of some new stained glass specialty firms and are encouraged to take another look.
Statement of Purpose/Scope of Work
The Stained Glass Window Task Force is being formed to help the Building Committee develop an affordable, incremental plan for repairing our stained glass windows and freeing their external beauty from their Lexan prison. The Task Force will carry out its work in part by:
- Getting the up to date history from the Building Committee,
- reviewing the recent evaluations and recommendations we already have,
- talking to our Building Committee contacts at the other churches in town,
- interviewing one or more potential contractor,
- setting up and participation in pre- and post-quote meetings with vendors, and
- discussing funding options with the Standing Committee and the Church Treasurer.
Deliverables
The Task Force will make recommendations in the form of a written report for consideration by the Building Committee which will include their:
- Overall recommendations on project approach,
- list of recommended vendors,
- analysis of options presented by vendors,
- recommendations on sequencing and execution, and
- recommendations on funding options and approach.
The chair of the Task Force shall report to the BC on the progress of its work at least once each month until it brings forward a formal written recommendation.
Membership
The Task Force will be made up of three to five members to be approved by the Standing Committee, with one member a liaison from the Building Committee.
Timetable
It is expected by the Standing Committee that the Task Force will serve for a limited period of time, and will be dissolved after the above tasks and deliverables have been completed. It is hoped that this limited time frame will make it easier for members of the congregation to serve on the task force. The Standing Committee requests that a final report be produced within three months of the task force's formation. This period can be extended upon request if the Task Force feels that additional time is required.
